Meet the Maker - March Edition

Meet the Maker: Alison McGann

Where stories come to life

Imagine a life brimming with creative energy: that’s Alison McGann. For over twenty years, she’s woven a rich tapestry of music, art and storytelling, igniting passion in students across Victoria. From her start as a Melbourne session musician to becoming a beloved regional flute teacher in Mildura, Alison’s musical dedication is undeniable. But her talents don’t stop there. She’s also a celebrated local actor and a nurturing force bringing musical joy to young families.

Alison’s creative spirit extends beyond music. A lifelong love of art and writing, particularly poetry, has blossomed into a flourishing career as a children’s author and illustrator. Inspired by a local writing workshop, she embraced her passion and began crafting stories that resonate with young readers.

McGann is the proud creator of four enchanting children’s books: Sunraysia Sun, Sing Crow, Risk it, Mister Biscuit and Phenomenal. Each book is more than just a story – they’re invitations to explore creativity, build confidence and discover the beauty of language. Illustrated with her own unique style, each book offers a visual feast that complements the engaging narratives.

Alison’s impact extends beyond the pages of her books. She actively encourages young people to pursue their artistic dreams, visiting local schools and sharing her journey as a writer, illustrator and musician. With more books in the pipeline, Alison continues to inspire and enchant, proving that creativity knows no bounds.

You can find Alison’s delightful books at the Mildura Visitor Information Centre’s Gift Shop, Workspace 3496 and select local businesses.
