A playful take on creativity
A colourful addition to Mildura’s maker scene, August Dreaming is the creative outlet of local artist Narissa Webster, whose handcrafted pieces bring a sense of fun, individuality and charm to everything she makes. Having grown up in Mildura, Narissa has always been surrounded by creativity. More than a decade ago, she first picked up a crochet hook, learning and creating alongside her Nan, who specialised in hand-carved leatherwork. What began as a shared hobby soon led to weekends spent at local markets, offering handmade goods and connecting with the community in a relaxed and creative setting.
It wasn’t until the COVID-19 lockdowns that August Dreaming truly took shape as a business. With extra time to focus on her craft, Narissa began experimenting with polymer clay jewellery while rediscovering her love for crochet. This period marked a shift in direction, moving away from traditional wearable items and towards something a little more playful.
Today, crocheted plushies have become a defining feature of the brand. Each piece is thoughtfully handmade and full of personality, making them instantly recognisable and highly sought after. Alongside these, Narissa also creates scrunchies, polymer clay earrings and a range of other handcrafted items, all united by a focus on colour, creativity and quality.
A key part of August Dreaming is the ability to customise. Narissa regularly takes on commission work, creating one-of-a-kind pieces tailored to her customers. Whether it’s a specific design idea or a personalised gift, this collaborative approach allows each item to hold its own meaning and story. Markets remain at the heart of the business, where Narissa enjoys connecting directly with customers and sharing the process behind her work.
For Narissa, the value of her work goes far beyond the finished piece. At its heart, it’s about the joy her creations bring to others. Whether it’s a smile at a market stall or the excitement of a custom order coming to life, those moments of connection are what matter most. August Dreaming’s creations are available at the Mildura Visitor Information Centre, with Narissa also regularly appearing at the Sunraysia Farmers and Makers Market (first Saturday of each month) and the Red Cliffs Country Market.
