Fibre Optic Symphonic Orchestra
Outback lights, symphonic nights
As the sun sets and the stars appear, light begins to glow across a vast open plain. Eighty illuminated Hills Hoists form a glowing orchestral pit, each representing an instrument in a luminous open-air symphony. The sound builds around you. The light responds. You don’t watch from a distance — you stand inside it.
This is Fibre Optic Symphonic Orchestra, created by British-Australian artist Bruce Munro — the artist behind Field of Light at Uluru. A light and sound experience on the edge of the outback in Wentworth, where the Murray and Darling rivers meet. With an original score by Emmy Award-winning composer Nainita Desai, ancient sandhills on the horizon and an epic night sky overhead — FOSO is one of Australia’s most spectacular settings for art, sound and light.
Opening 24th April 2026 at Perry Sandhills, Wentworth.

Trail of Lights
Discover Trail of LightsFOSO is one half of a larger journey. Already open at Lock Island, Mildura, Trail of Lights is Bruce Munro’s first installation in the region. A contemplative after-dark walk where 12,500 firefly lights and Gone Fishing sculptures illuminate the natural landscape. Where FOSO builds to a symphony, Trail of Lights begins in stillness. Together, they form a complete emotional arc through light.

What should I wear and bring?
FOSO is an outdoor walking experience which takes place on sandy terrain after dark. Comfortable closed-toe shoes and mosquito repellant are strongly recommended. Where is FOSO located & is parking available?
FOSO is located on Log Bridge Road, Wentworth NSW 2648. From the Murray Darling Junction, continue along Log Bridge Road towards Lock 10/Weir for approximately 3.2km, then turn right into the signed FOSO entrance. A dedicated car park for vehicles and buses is available on site.
What should I do on arrival?
Please check in with our team on arrival before heading into FOSO. You’re then welcome to explore the installation self-guided and at your own pace anytime throughout the evening.
How long does the experience take?
We recommend allowing at least 45 minutes for FOSO, though we encourage you to slow it down, immerse yourself in the experience and make a night of it. Many visitors enjoy spending time on the deck at the FOSO activation space before or after their walk, which offers a relaxed spot to settle in with a bite to eat and/or drink.
There is one ticket type per night, giving you the flexibility to arrive when it suits you and experience the installation in the light conditions you prefer — whether that’s sunset, twilight or full darkness.
Are guided tours available?
No. The installation is best experienced self-guided and at your own pace.
Is there food and drink available?
Yes. A dedicated activation space offers a bar featuring local wines by Monak Wine Co. and Trentham Estate, light refreshments and light snack options. Please note that FOSO is a cashless facility. Being fully licensed also means BYO is not permitted. Wentworth’s local eateries are also a great option before your visit.
What happens if it rains?
FOSO is an outdoor experience and operates in most weather conditions, including light rain. If a session is cancelled due to severe weather or unsafe conditions, an alternative date will be offered in the first instance. If that date is not suitable, a refund may be provided to the original ticket purchaser in line with the ticket terms and conditions.
Can I take photos and videos?
Yes – photography and video for private, non-commercial use are welcome and encouraged FOSO. Please be mindful of other visitors when using your device and ensure you do not use a flash or record/photograph any person without their authorisation.
Commercial photography or recording requires prior written permission.
