Del & Gene is more than a candle brand – it’s a heartfelt tribute to family, tradition and the power of memory. Behind the name is Gelsomina (Gels) Timpano, a local maker based in Irymple, whose Italian heritage and childhood experiences have shaped every aspect of her creative journey.
Gels grew up surrounded by the love and traditions of her Italian grandparents, Nonna and Nonno. Their home was a haven of abundance – a garden bursting with fresh vegetables, the aroma of bread baking in the oven, and the laughter of cousins around the kitchen table. Days were spent under the sun picking produce, helping at the family stall, and watching lively bartering with customers, while even simple trips to the shops became cherished moments of generosity. As time passed and life brought challenges, their resilience and quiet acts of love – like sharing a hidden piece of chocolate – left an enduring mark, inspiring Gels to create something that captures those feelings forever.
Del & Gene was born from a desire to preserve memory through scent. Fragrance has a unique ability to transport us to another time, and for Gels, it began with the recollection of her grandparents’ love for elegance and cologne. That spark ignited a creative journey, one that involved months of testing and refining over seventy fragrances to achieve the perfect balance of aroma, burn quality, and emotional connection.
Each candle in the Del & Gene collection carries a story. Some evoke the nostalgia of childhood and family traditions; others draw inspiration from iconic films or the simple joys her children cherish – scents that make their rooms feel warm and inviting.
