Rhian Elycia McLeod is a local artist based in Gol Gol, whose practice is defined by both talent and dedication. Rhian has forged a unique path, expertly balancing her role as a part-time art teacher with her life as a practising artist. This duality forms the heart of Rhian’s business, allowing her to actively bridge the gap between education and professional practice and show her students that success is achievable through creativity.
Rhian’s exhibition history is impressive, beginning with her first solo exhibition a decade ago, ‘Woodland in Wonderland,’ at The Art Vault in Mildura. Today, she is busy preparing for her fourth exhibition and developing a new print series, all while contributing to the local arts community through murals, commissions and workshops.
Nature serves as Rhian’s ultimate muse, with a particular focus on the lively bird life inhabiting her garden by the banks of the Murray River. Her medium of choice is primarily pen and ink, which she wields to capture the intricate, small details of our native flora. Her compositions are a stunning showcase of local beauty. Rhian’s meticulous attention to the spiral shapes and fractal patterns found in feathers and foliage reflects her deep interest in the organic and naturalistic forms of the Mildura landscape.
Her pen and ink creations celebrate the unique character of the Mildura region. She believes that art should be a source of daily pleasure, designed to spark joy, foster pride and strengthen our connection to the place we call home. Nothing brings Rhian more satisfaction than knowing her vibrant, nature-inspired artworks evoke a strong sense of comfort, calm and belonging.
