Meet the Maker: Tabletop Grapes

The sweet life

Some of the region’s most celebrated food producers began with a simple dream, and for Gino and Elina Garreffa, that dream was life on the land. In 1972, the couple made a bold decision to leave their professional careers and pursue farming full time, purchasing their first property in Mildura. Drawn by the region’s abundant sunshine, fertile loam soils and reliable Murray River irrigation, they set about building a business centred on quality, hard work and a genuine passion for growing exceptional produce. More than 50 years later, that passion remains at the heart of Tabletop Grapes.

Today, Gino and Elina continue to work alongside their children, producing premium table grapes and some of Australia’s finest chemical-free dried fruit. What began as a family farming venture What began as a family farming venture has evolved into a highly respected business, renowned among food lovers, chefs and producers who value authentic flavour and traditional methods.

The Garreffa family’s contribution to the region has become part of Mildura’s story in more ways than one. Elina is featured in Mildura’s iconic Ninth Street mural, a vibrant piece of public art celebrating the people, produce and character of Sunraysia. Depicted among the imagery that honours the region’s rich agricultural heritage, her inclusion is a fitting recognition of a family whose dedication to growing exceptional fruit has helped shape Mildura’s food culture for generations.

Their reputation extends well beyond Sunraysia. Acclaimed chefs including Stefano di Pieri, Maggie Beer, Guy Grossi and Heston Blumenthal have all sought out Tabletop Grapes products, drawn to the outstanding quality and distinctive flavour that comes from the Garreffa family’s unique approach to growing and drying fruit.

At the heart of their success is a commitment to doing things differently. Tabletop Grapes’ dried fruit is produced using a completely chemical-free drying process, allowing the fruit’s natural character to shine. Free from additives, oils and added sugars, every product delivers pure, concentrated flavour that reflects the vineyard where it was grown.

The result is a range of dried fruits that have become favourites among home cooks, food enthusiasts and cheese lovers alike. Whether enjoyed straight from the pack, added to your favourite recipe or paired with local wine and cheese, each bite tells the story of generations of care and craftsmanship.

Among the standouts is their signature Sunmuscat Cluster, a unique seedless variety dried naturally on the bunch and carefully hand-picked to preserve its distinctive honey muscat flavour. The traditional Muscatel Clusters are another favourite, offering a rich, complex taste that pairs beautifully with cheese and wine. Their range also includes flavour-packed Currants, robust Black Muscats, intensely flavoured Raisin Flame and the ever-popular Sunmuscats, loved by children and adults alike for their naturally sweet honey notes.

Another specialty is Elina’s Vincotto, a traditional Italian condiment made from specially selected late-season fruit. Passed down through generations, the family recipe creates a rich, versatile syrup that adds depth to fruit tarts, salads, stewed fruits and countless other dishes. It is a pantry staple for anyone who appreciates authentic food traditions and exceptional flavour.

Through every season and every harvest, the Garreffa family continues to prove that quality comes from patience, passion and respect for the land. Their products showcase the best of Mildura’s growing conditions while celebrating the heritage, innovation and family values that have guided the business for more than five decades.

Tabletop Grapes products are available from the Mildura and Riverfront Visitor Information Centres and at the Mildura Airport.
