Meet the Maker: Taste of Sunraysia

Showcasing flavours of the region

Some of Mildura’s most memorable gifts tell a story of place, and for Sarah Smith, that story begins with the people, produce and creativity that make our region unique. Taste of Sunraysia Hampers was born from a desire to showcase the incredible range of products being grown, created and crafted across the region, bringing together local flavours and experiences into thoughtfully curated gifts that celebrate Sunraysia.

The business first began with Sarah’s mum, Carmel, who started creating hampers featuring products from the family farm, Campisi Produce sultana products and homemade preserves. What started as a simple family venture soon revealed something bigger: an opportunity to share the region’s remarkable producers with a much wider audience.

After more than 13 years working as a travel consultant, Sarah found herself looking for a new direction following the challenges of COVID and the arrival of her growing family. Recognising the wealth of exceptional products being produced throughout Mildura, she saw the potential to expand the business and create a platform that would celebrate even more local makers and growers.

Today, Taste of Sunraysia Hampers has evolved into a recognised regional brand, sourcing a diverse collection of local products including wines, olive products, chocolates, Murray River Salt and specialty food items. Each hamper is carefully assembled to reflect the quality, character and authenticity of the region, offering recipients a genuine taste of the region

At the heart of the business is a commitment to supporting local businesses and championing the people behind each product. Every hamper creates an opportunity to showcase regional producers, helping connect locals and visitors with the incredible range of goods available right here in Sunraysia.

Alongside its hampers, the business has developed a growing range of merchandise inspired by Mildura. One of the standout products is the Taste of Sunraysia tea towel, a beautifully illustrated keepsake that captures the essence of Sunraysia and has become a favourite among visitors and locals alike.

To bring the design to life, Sarah collaborated with local artist Jacklyn Foster Art, whose distinctive illustration celebrates the landscapes, produce and character that define the region. The artwork proved so popular that it has since expanded beyond tea towels to include magnets, postcards and prints, allowing people to take a little piece of Sunraysia home with them.

The tea towel is currently stocked at the Mildura Visitor Information Centre and continues to be a popular choice for those looking for a meaningful local gift or memento of their time in the region. Its vibrant design reflects everything Taste of Sunraysia stands for: community, creativity and regional pride.

Through every hamper, tea towel and locally inspired product, Taste of Sunraysia continues to shine a spotlight on the growers, makers and small businesses that help shape the identity of the region. It is a business built on connection, supporting local enterprise while sharing the flavours, stories and talent that make Sunraysia such a special place.
