From there, venture out to the extraordinary landscapes of Mungo National Park, where ancient lakebeds, striking dunes and rich First Nations heritage await. Continue your journey north along the Darling River to the spectacular Menindee Lakes in Kinchega National Park, home to abundant birdlife, historic sites and some of Australia’s most captivating outback scenery.

    Just under 1.5 hours from Mildura, Pooncarie is an easy day trip or outback getaway, reached via Wentworth along the Darling River or through Coomealla. Be sure to check road conditions before travelling, particularly after rain. If you can, time your visit around one of the town’s signature events, including the Pooncarie Field Day, the iconic Pooncarie Cup in October, or the high-octane Pooncarie Desert Dash each April.
